About the Course

The department offers B.Sc. degree in Botany and complementary course for B.Sc Zoology. The syllabus for the course is as prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi University.  As per the new CBCS choice and credit based system, department offers ‘Agri-based Microenterprises’ as the open course and ‘Plant Genetic Resource Management’ as the choice based course.  The department also offers an add course in Mushroom cultivation to improve self-employability opportunities among the students.

The programme provides knowledge of the living world, plant diversity, evolutionary trends and applied branches of Botany. The department also has high participation of students in various extension activities promoting organic farming, mushroom cultivation, biodiversity conservation etc. The department provide various short term training programmes, internships and workshops which improve the practical skills of the students through the DBT STAR college scheme.

Being a degree in pure science, BSc Botany offer various opportunities in higher studies including areas of biotechnology, microbiology, bioinformatics etc. The amount of diversity in the field of Botany gives it’s students a wide array of choices in terms of their specializations as per their choice, aptitude and interests. The department has an efficient track record of assuring a student progression above 70% every year and admission in reputed institutes for higher studies.

Our aim is to strive for an excellent environment for learning and research in Botany / plant sciences and produce  equip students with skills necessary to fulfill their role in contemporary society.
