B.Sc CHEMISTRY MODEL I

Department of Chemistry, St.Xavier’s College for women is an ISO 9001:2015 certified department which offers graduation in Chemistry with Polymer Chemistry as Choice based Course and is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. 

The course enables the student to have   a solid foundation and insight in all basic branches of Chemistry namely-Theoretical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry,Physical Chemistry,Inorganic Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry. The course also provides environmental awareness to become an environmental steward so as to take part actively in programmes pertainingto sustainabledevelopment. It is the only department under M.G University which offers Forensic Science as an add on course.

The students are encouraged to take up various online courses through Swayam platforms and  are given hands on training through short term courses at CIPET,Kochi, Unibiosys, Kalamassery, Summer/Winter internships,ASAP training ,WWS(walk with Scholar) training  &Industrial Visit.The students are encouraged to take up projects based on recent research advancements in the field of Chemistry which would surely enable them to develop research aptitude and analytical skill. They can also adopt for certification in add on course-Fine arts and Jewellery making. B.Sc Chemistry graduates can also opt for jobs such as Lab Chemist,Online Tutors(Chegg India) through placement cell of the college.

 B.Sc Chemistry graduates  are offered with many  options for higher studies. Their options include M.Sc in Pure Chemistry,Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry,Organic Chemistry,Inorganic Chemistry, Forensic Science Nanochemistry, Pharmaceutical   Chemistry, Biochemistry,  Biotechnology,MBA.

Mission :Educate and train the students as chemists of high calibre, sound in theory and practice and equip them to achieve excellence in all walks of life as responsible citizens.
