A significant component of holistic education is sports and the Department of Physical Education of St. Xavier’s College for Women, Aluva has proved to be one of the most dynamic departments in the institution ever since its inception in 1964. The department has produced quite a number of University, State and Indian players in Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Cricket, Kabaddi, Judo and Swimming.
Students and faculty of this department are committed towards extending their service to other agencies like associations of various disciples like Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Athletics, kabaddi, Cricket, Judo & Chess . Most of the students are actively involved in the organization of various tournaments which take place in and around town. These tournaments include the University, Intercollegiate, and Inter District and State championships. They are also given such opportunities for organizing Inter collegiate matches conducted inside the college campus.

Fifth semester UG Open course – Physical, Health and Life Skills Education Performance Training and Therapy.
Qualified persons in the field of sports psychology, physiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Diet, Yoga and sports administration are regularly consulted to make these players mentally and physically strong for better performance in their respective games.
National , State level and University level participation helps students fine tune their skill performance which help them secure lucrative jobs in various fields like the Railways, Police Service , KSEB, etc
Facilities
The Department has established a well equipped Health Club in the College Campus for students who desire to participate in recreational or sporting activities These facilities are fully utilized by both faculty and students who are in the pursuit of increased agility.
The other facilities include a Weight training hall, Basketball court, Volleyball court, Table Tennis board, Handball court, Badminton court, Yoga and Gymnastic hall, Cricket practice nets etc.
The Department of physical education is committed to the idea of a healthier nation and keeping this view in mind conducts regular yoga sessions for all the students in the college. Yoga enhances the performance of the students, it helps them attain more economical physical activity through more fluent physical movements.
