About the Department

The Department of Commerce began its journey in the year 1982 with an undergraduate programme aimed at developing and nurturing global competencies among students through quality education and research. The Department focuses on the multifaceted human resource development of the women students anticipating covetable academic achievements that will assure them excellent career prospects in life. The department has always attempted to impart the most competitive professional training to the students. The department was upgraded to the Post Graduate Department in 1984 with specialization in Financial Management. The department was elevated to the position of a Research Centre in commerce in 2013. The B.Com Honors is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of commerce, business, and finance, while also nurturing critical thinking, analytical skills, and ethical business practices. This programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the dynamic and competitive field of commerce.

Curriculum

  • Commerce Major: The curriculum of the B.Com Honors program at MGU is carefully crafted to cover a wide range of subjects relevant to commerce and business studies. Commerce is taken as Major includes core subjects such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Management, Business Law, and Taxation.
  • Specialization: MGU may offer specializations within the B.Com Honors program to allow students to focus on specific areas of commerce or business. These specialization include Finance and Taxation. Specialization enable students to develop expertise in their chosen field and enhance their career prospects.
  • Minor- The Department offer minor in commerce with business regulations and business studies.
  • Multi- Disciplinary Course(MDC)-The Department offers MDC in Business and entrepreneurship and fundamentals of Accounting to other streams of students who would like to come and explore Commerce.
  • Practical Exposure: The B.Com Honors program at MGU emphasizes practical learning experiences to complement theoretical knowledge. Students may participate in internships, industry projects, case studies etc. These practical experiences help students develop problem-solving skills, decision-making abilities, and professional competencies.
  • Research Opportunities: The B.Com Honors program may offer opportunities for students to engage in research projects, seminars, and conferences. With 3 research guides and 5 Ph.D holders, Students may work closely with faculty mentors to explore topics of interest, conduct independent research, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of commerce and business. In order to support the research activities of the department,  well-furnished research centre with a library facility and computers with internet facility are provided for both research scholars as well as the P.G. students.
  • Holistic Development: In addition to academic rigor, the B.Com Honors program at MGU focuses on the holistic development of students. Through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as workshops, seminars, cultural events, and sports, students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, communication skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The department encourages the extra-curricular activities of the students through department association “COMAX”.
  • Infrastructure (Department)The department has a well-furnished seminar hall with 50 seating capacity and smart board facility. A well-furnished research centre cum computer lab is also available in the department for the students.

ADD ON PROGRAMMES

1.SOFT SKILLS AND APTITUDE TEST TRAINING: Are you ready to take your career to the next level? In today’s competitive job market, having the right skills and mindset can make all the difference. That’s where our Soft Skills and Aptitude Test Training Course comes in. Our curriculum is designed to cover all aspects of soft skills and aptitude tests, from communication and leadership to problem-solving and critical thinking. Led by industry experts with years of experience, each session is tailored to provide practical insights and hands-on training.

Course Duration:  30 hours -(Mode of Teaching:  Offline)

2.TALLY PRIME- The course is to introduce students to computerised form of accounting and GST filing.  The course is done in collaboration with Lakhotia Computer Centre(LCC) who has  33 years of excellence in the field of computer education.  The course concludes with an exam were successful candidates get certificate.

3.CMA AND ACCA COACHING

Coaching classes for globally accepted professional course like CMA US and ACCA UK are offered after class hours as add on.

CMA is one of the most reputed management accounting courses all over the world. It’s more popular in the USA and it has a presence in over 100 countries. Most domains in finance concentrate about certification but CMA is different, it focuses on management accounting as well as financial management. Thus, CMA is more comprehensive than any other course in the financial domain. Sitting for CMA is more convenient for students. It has over 100 examination centers all over the world and you just need to clear two exams to get certified. Even each exam is only of 4 hours duration.

ACCA is one of the best accounting certification courses. ACCA has been training and educating students for a long time. Over 436,000 students have already passed out doing ACCA and they all are employed in reputed companies. What makes ACCA more dignified is its presence over 180 countries. Like CMA, the curriculum of ACCA is also very comprehensive. It not only deals with the finance domain, but it also emphasizes technical and management aspects of finance as well.

4. UGC-NET COACHING FOR PG STUDENTS-The Department also offers coaching for UGC-NET and the result over the years speaks for us. Our students are placed in various colleges ,with many involving in research .
