 The Department of English was resonant with myriad activities in the last academic year

  • The Department observed The World Environment day by organizing green poems recitation competition on the banks of River Periyar on 6 June 2019.
  • The renowned actor and playwright Girish Karnad was commemorated on 11 June 2019. The students of the departments of English and Communicative English jointly organized the event in which a presentation on the life and achievements of the writer was elaborated.
  • The Department of English and Research Centre in collaboration with Communicative English and Theatre Club organised an International Seminar on The Dynamics of Histrionics: Themes, Motifs and Emerging Trends in Contemporary Theatre on 25th  and 26th  of June 2019. Dr. Stan C. Denman (Baylor University, Texas) and Dr. Meritt Denman (Florida State University) handles the sessions on the Contemporary American Theatre and the Current Practices of Dramaturgy.
  •   A State-level inter-collegiate dissertation competition, I-Quest, was organised on July 30 by the Post Graduate Department of English and Research Centre along with the Department of Communicative English. The competition was judged by Dr. V. S. Jailal, Retired Faculty Member, SNM College, Maliakara, and Dr. Anjana  Sankar, Research guide (M.G.University), Associate Professor and Head of English Department, Sree Sankara College, Kalady.  The winners were felicitated with cash awards and trophies.
  • The Department of English and Research Centre and Communicative English department organised  Book Quest, a Book Anthakshari Competition as a Part of World Reading Day on 19 June 2019 and Water Colouring competition as a part of World Water Colour Day on 10 July.
  • The formal inauguration of the activities of English and Communicative English Association was done by Dr. Edward Edezhath on 2 August 2019.
  • The Net Coaching class of the department  was inaugurated on 3 August 2019. Dr. Milon Franz welcomed the gathering and the classes were formally inaugurated by Dr. Sr. Stella.
  • 6 students of the Department qualified UGC Net in this academic Year – the students are Donna, Maria Josephine, Naseeha, Sneha and Sidia.
  • The Department organized a session ‘ Learn with the Peers’ on 6 August 2019. The sessions were handled by the PG Students of the department and the topics covered were ‘Research Tools’ and ’Various Search Engines’.
  • The Department also organizes two Add on Course : Add on Course in French and Add on Course in German in Collaboration with Pontifical Institute of Foreign Languages.
  • Department of English and Communicative English organised a welcome day was organised for the first year students of the department of English and Communicative English. The event was named “Petrichor” and was on 8 August 2019.
  • Lee Chung Habe , Director of International Mind Education Institute , from Korea Addressed the students of the Department of English and Department of Communicative English on 24 January 2020.
  • The final year students of the English and Communicative English as part of their academic tour visited Udupi, Murudeshwar and Dandeli from January 31 to February 4 2020.
  • The Department of English actively participated in Onam, Christmas, Ethnic day celebrations, Himachal Pradesh Rally and various other competitions organized by the students’ council and bagged majority of the prizes including the best installation of Ethnic day rally, Xaverian Queen, Overall trophy in sports and arts.


  •  Donna Rachel Sam  and Anu Thomas secured the first and the sixth rank respectively in the M.A English  Exams held in May 2019.  Mehjebin Farzana  secured the fourth position in the B.A.English Language and Literature (Model 1) Examination held March 2019.
  • Pooja Sunil and Maria Josephine Varghese of the Department of English bagged the first prize for the intercollegiate PPT competition on Smart Policies for an eco smart city organised by IQAC.
  • Maria Josephine Varghese got selected for the Aspire scholarship for the year 2019-20. She will be working on the topic “ Waste Colonialism: A Study on Plastic Colonialism and Environmental Justice Movement in Asian Countries” at Sree Sankara College under the guidance of Dr. Preethi Nair.
  • Prameeja Ann Eliza of II MA delivered a lecture on “ Touch…Me? Not? An Analysis through Android Kunjappan Ver. 5.25 as part of Research Promotion Council activities.
  • Susanah of II MA gave a speech on “How Long can You Hold your Breath” as a part of Academic week to the students of Chemistry Dept.
